Story behind Rakshabandhan a knot of protection:
There are various story behind Rakshabandhan, which states the starting of this auspicious festival. Many queens used to send Rakhis to their neighbour kings as the king would promise to protect her as a brother.
But the most famous story which is still relied upon is the story of Rani Karnawati of Chittor and the Mughal Emperor Humayun. Rani Karnawati, queen of Chittor was attacked by Bahadur Shah, the Sultan of Gujarat.
And as handling this attack single hand was not possible by the queen so she sent a Rakhi to the Mughal Emperor Humayun, in lieu of protection and help.
And the emperor on receiving the Rakhi became overwhelmed with emotions and he immediately set out with his troops towards Chittor to protect it from the invasion of Bahadur Shah.
But he couldn’t reach on time. The queens fortress was in hands of Sultan. And Rani Karnawati, along with all the women had performed Jauhar (mass suicide) by then.
Humayun fought with Bahadur Shah after reaching the fortress and evicted him from Chittor. And Rani Karnawati’s son, Vikramjeet Singh was handed over the Empire.
And because of this, the act of sister tying Rakhi on brothers wrist was named Rakshabandhan as brothers pledge to protect their sisters until their death so it’s a life long promise! That is why it is known as Rakshabandhan a knot of protection.
And when it comes to science, there are various scientific reasons behind every ritual of Rakshabandhan!
Scientific reason behind Rakshabandhan:
Shrawan: This festival is celebrated in the auspicious month of Shrawan which is also a holy month for Hindus. And as per the location of India geographically, rainy season is at its peak.
And due to rainy season there are various diseases occurring during that time so sister in Rakshabandhan pray for their brothers well being and health!
Poornima (full moon day): Rakshabandhan a knot of protection is celebrated on the full moon day of Shrawan. On this day, moon is at its full phase which attracts the fluids on the Earth.
Fluids in our body also get attracted and tends to go upwards leading to all the excitement for the festival!
Rakhi (Silk thread): Rakhi is the most important thing in this festival as it’s Rakshabandhan a knot of protection. It signifies protection. Especially red, orange and yellow colours are used in it.
